Natalie Bennett, hotfoot from visits to Preston New Road (PNR), the Cuadrilla fracking site and a debate with Natascha Engel Commissioner for Shale Gas, on Look North earlier in the week visited the site entrance today. It has to be said that it was not obvious which of the two was the least distasteful to her, but we suspect that the current halt in fracking at PNR must have sweetened that particular pill. The Green Party are staunchly anti fracking and Natalie made no secret of her own particular distaste for the process that might follow exploratory drilling at Tinker lane. Ms Bennett was aware of a general unrest over the strength and nature of the policing at Tinker lane and resolved to follow this up with the Green Party representative in the House of Lords (who has a civil liberties portfolio for the Greens) and Paddy Tipping Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire. Expressing a concern that our own version of democracy in the UK was far too centralised and that what local democracty we had was underresourced and had little real power. “Politics should be something you do and not have done to you.” a sentiment expressed by Natalie that can be shared whether you are for, or against, unconventional gas extraction, perhaps!
