The exploratory borehole has now been drilled to a depth of around 620 metres. This is our estimate based on the well architecture as submitted by IGas as part of the bundle of planning documentation submitted to Nottinghamshire County Council and observation of site working (number of drill pipes removed). The accompanying image shows a halt to the drilling phase as a casing string (steel pipe lining to support the borehole) is introduced down the borehole. From the documentation we believe that the 12.25 inch diameter borehole is now being cased with 9.625 inch casing which is shown to be to a depth of 620 metres from the surface. Once this section is encased we expect the final section of the borehole will be drilled with an 8.25 inch hole and ultimately a 7 inch casing to the design depth of around 1,800 metres.
