Yesterday we posted a request for ideas on what purpose the valve arrangement that we loosely called a wellhead system/christmas tree, image above, might serve. (this post replaces that request) It seems we might not have been too far from the mark. The valve assembly resembles and most likely is a well head. The sort of device that might sit on top of a borehole during a period of suspension, rather than abandonment/plugging, the other option open to IGas. So most likely we are heading into a period of evaluation and quoting from IGas’s Planning Support Statement (part of the bundle prepared for NCC Minerals Planning Authority) Following the removal of the drill rig, the evaluation period could last up to two years and during this stage the well would be suspended and maintained in accordance with industry best available technique and all above ground equipment would be removed from the site apart from the wellhead, site offices and security fencing, as shown in Drawings TL3/10A and TL3/11.
Rather than the fenced enclosure shown on the Drawings we of course have a ventilated container. Incidentally it was likely that the delivery movements of that container and crane prompted the police to close the A634 at 10 o’clock on Thursday that a number of you were caught up in.
Now rather than guessing how a monitoring process is conducted we have elected to ask IGas if we can have a copy of their procedure, also mentioned in the Planning Support Statement, namely Well Design and Operation Standard: Part 2 – Production Wells. We will let you know how we fare with that one. Incidentally one respondent also mentioned that the well might be used as a listening well whilst in its suspended state. The term listening well is not to be found on my search engine but interestingly appears on the INEOS Marsh Lane Proposal document (and presumably others of theirs) that shows an image of a suspended well and wireline listening apparatus. If Tinker lane was to go the way of a listening well it would prompt the question on whose behalf it might therefore be doing the listening, would it not?
